Assoc. Prof.
Valentin Calu, MD
A surgeon with over two decades of experience in the surgical treatment of digestive cancers, Associate Professor at the "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Consultant Surgeon at the Elias University Emergency Hospital.
His work brings together three mutually reinforcing dimensions: high-complexity surgery, internationally published research and the training of the next generation of surgeons.
Precise technique, in the service of the person
Digestive oncological surgery demands two things equally: absolute technical rigour and the ability to stay alongside a person at one of the most difficult moments of their life. Dr Valentin Calu has built a career around this balance — the most advanced technology applied with deeply human care.
A vocation for surgery took shape early and became a constant commitment to excellence: continuous training at leading centres, early adoption of minimally invasive techniques and, more recently, of robotic surgery, and a permanent concern to bring international standards into practice in Romania.
The same dedication goes into training students and young surgeons — the conviction that a good surgeon is measured not only by what they operate on, but by how much they manage to pass on to those who follow.
